Philippines’ best preserved Spanish City was established as the capital of the far north in 1572. Vigan City that consists of streets with old Spanish houses, where calesa remains the main means of transportation became a tourist spot in the Philippines.
I was really amazed when I first came in Vigan to visit a relative. Riding a calesa was an unforgettable experience for me. The ambiance in Vigan City was far different from other cities in the North. Here, you can find decorated motorized tricycles, a number of elegant Spanish villas, some of which are now hotels. Elegant life of their colonial owners was an electric mix s Spanish, Chinese and Malay influences. There are also range of arts, and crafts that flourishes in Vigan. It includes the production of burnay pots, big storage jars which have been produced in the city for hundreds of years. Vigan is also known for their sweet and salty longganisa, their “bagnet” and empanada which everybody will love and like to eat. Come and visit Vigan City, Philippines!
